'Knowing and Doing God's Will'

From the Book Of Proverbs

This radio talk was first given as a much longer sermon at Church of the Messiah where I serve as Pastor. It was part of a sermon series through the book of Proverbs entitled, "Proverbs: Ancient Wisdom For A PostModern World."

Proverbs 21:5  

⁵ The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,
    but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

Proverbs 15:22

²² Without counsel plans fail,
    but with many advisers they succeed.

Proverbs 12:5 

⁵ The thoughts of the righteous are just;
    the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.

Proverbs 16:2

² All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
    but the Lord weighs the spirit.

Proverbs 3:7-8

⁷ Be not wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
⁸ It will be healing to your flesh^[a]

Proverbs 27:1

1. I deceive myself and want binoculars, techniques, control, guarantees and a 'two-button-life" for my life.

Proverbs 3:5-6 

⁵ Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    and do not lean on your own understanding.
⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will make straight your paths.

2. The living God lovingly offers to provide a mirror, the Cross and the New Covenant to fallen rebels like you and me.

Proverbs 16:3

³ Commit your work to the Lord,
    and your plans will be established.

Proverbs 29:18

¹⁸ Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint,^[a]
    but blessed is he who keeps the law.
