Treated like an Appliance’

People will often say that they are spiritual, but not religious. We’re going to look at a bible text (above) that touches on these two things: on those of us who say they’re spiritual and not religious, and our aversion or dislike of being treated like an appliance.

This discussion considers the following points:
(Please click on the audio link: http://proxy.autopod.ca/podcasts/chum/6/15118/good_news_065_aug11.mp3 for far greater detail.)

1. God is a 'Who' and not a 'What'.

2. I cannot know who God is apart from God revealing Himself to me.

3. In the face of the need for God to reveal Himself, do I: boast, demand, despair, stomp away angry, or humbly ask?

Revelation is not mechanical. We can have advantages and waste them. We need to humbly ask Jesus to reveal God to us.

The cross of the Christ is the great act of revelation of God and the great act by which God can redeem us.

4. Jesus delivers the death blow to spiritual pride.

Soul Care

a) Don't stop thinking - start listening to the Bible deeply.

b) Don't shut doors on knowledge - make connections and grow.

c) Choose courage. Courage to know Jesus and be known by God.

d) Choose to look up to what is truly bigger than yourself.

e) Ask Jesus to reveal the Lord of Heaven and earth as Father to you.

Prayer:

Jesus, Thank you that you can reveal God to us, that you do reveal God to us. Thank you Father, that Jesus, the way that you reveal God is also the way that you redeemed us, so that we could be God’s children by adoption and grace.
Father, Dad, Father, please grow in us, please grow in me a humble, trusting knowledge of the greatness of Jesus to reveal you.
Dad, Father, please grow in me a humble, trusting knowledge of the greatness of Jesus to reveal.
