This week's broadcast is the sermon I gave at Church of the Messiah.
The sermon was called "What is Truth?"
It is part of my series, "Knowing Jesus: John's Intimate Biography."

"What is Truth?"

Today’s Reading:  John 18:28-40  (ESV)

Jesus Before Pilate

28 Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor's headquarters.[a] It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor's headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” 32 This was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show by what kind of death he was going to die.

My Kingdom Is Not of This World

33 So Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” 37 Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”
After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him. 39 But you have a custom that I should release one man for you at the Passover. So do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 40 They cried out again, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.[b]

This week's broadcast is the sermon I gave at Church of the Messiah.
The sermon was called "Being Holy"
It is part of my series, "Knowing Jesus: John's Intimate Biography."

"Being Holy"

Today’s Reading:  John 17:6-19  (ESV)
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.[a] 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them[b] in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself,[c] that they also may be sanctified[d] in truth.

NOTES:
1a. Every human being is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

1b. Without in any way diminishing His real sovereignty over all things, God gives you real freedom.

1c. Father, help me to live in the world with a deepening confidence that You gave me to Jesus, and that You are still giving people to Jesus in this city, and in every city throughout the world.

2. Holy Father, keep me safe in Your name, so that I will seek to be one with other Christians, as You are one with Jesus. And keep me safe from the the devil and from all evil.

3. Father, set me aside in the truth, and for the truth. Make me holy in the truth, and for the truth. May all I do be in the truth, and for the truth. Your word is true.

4. Father, help me to live in the world with a deepening confidence that God the Son of God, dedicated Himself to do Your will, and die on the cross on my behalf, that I might be wholly, truly Yours.
