‘Hell’ - Revelation 20
Dear friends, I preached a longer
version of this talk in my church. It was part of a series of sermons on the
Book of revelation entitled, "Following the Lamb in the dying days of the
dragon". Over 28 weeks I preached through all of Revelation.
1. Jesus is very clear and the
Bible is very clear - Hell exists.
2. The New Testament is clearer
and more insistent on the reality of Hell than the Old Testament is.
3. Every New Testament writer
teaches that Hell exists and no biblical writer contradicts what Revelation20 teaches.
God is the ultimate author of
Scripture. The Bible is "God's word written". However, there are 9
human beings that God worked through in the writing of the New Testament. They
are: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James, Jude and the unknown author
of Hebrews.
4. Jesus teaches that Hell exists
and nothing He says contradicts what Revelation20 teaches.
5. At no time in the past,
present or future is the devil equal with God.
6. Hell is a real
"place" of punishment, destruction and banishment.
7. Canadians see the biblical
teaching on Hell as causing spiritual, moral and intellectual problems. But the
Bible presents Hell as solving spiritual, moral and intellectual problems.
8. "How dare You!" is
the anthem of Hell.
9. Since no one deserves Heaven,
unless God intervenes, Hell is my destination.
10. God takes no delight in the
death of a sinner but rather that I will turn from my wickedness and live.
11. On the cross, Jesus took my
punishment, destruction, and banishment and offers me His standing with God.
Alleluia!
Let’s pray:
Father, make us
mindful of the reality of hell, but as we are mindful of the reality of hell grant
us even more mindfulness of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Make us disciples,
gripped by the Gospel, living for your glory.
