The following is a shortened version of a Sermon I preached at Church of the Messiah. It was part of a sermon series on the Book of Romans called "Grace Shaped Life".
Before I begin, I would like to give a big shout out to Bruce Newman, this morning, who has made a donation to
make this show possible and wants to especially point to Jericho Road, a really
great ministry in this city that helps with the needy. To find out more about
them go to: http://jerichoroad.ca/

‘The Big Ask’
1. "It does not
matter what you believe as long as you are sincere" only applies to things
that are not real and do not matter.
2. Three
counter-intuitive truths taught by the Bible: A) All attempts to be right with
God by rule-keeping fail: B) All attempts to ascend to God to know Him fail; C)
All attempts to descend to God to know Him fail.
"For I am not
ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who
believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in the gospel the
righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written,
"The righteous shall live by faith."" Romans 1: 16-17
Romans
1:16-17 -English Standard Version (ESV)
The Righteous Shall
Live by Faith
16 For
I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to
everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For
in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[a] as it is written, “The righteous shall
live by faith.”[b]
Footnotes:
1. Romans 1:17
Or beginning and ending in faith
2. Romans 1:17
Or The one who by faith is righteous shall live
3. The Gospel is the
good news that by the resurrection, God has vindicated who Jesus is, and what
He has accomplished.
4. Only God can
cross the infinite gap of time and space and being, to come to you where you
are, as you are, knowing who you are.
5. God says to us, "If you
confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that I
raised Him from the dead, I will make you right with me now and forever."
Let’s pray:
Father, Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for his
death and his resurrection. Thank you that He is the power of God for salvation to all that believe. Father,
bring many to a saving faith in Jesus.
