This week's broadcast is the sermon I gave at Church of the Messiah.
The sermon was called "Jesus Bore My Curse"
It is part of my series, "The Crucified Messiah"

"Jesus Bore My Curse"

Today’s Reading: Galatians 3:10-14  (ESV)

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”[a] 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit[b] through faith.

SERMON NOTES:

The Crucified Messiah

Jesus Bore My Curse

Galatians 3:10-14

1) In the world, curses flow from hatred and a lust for power.

2) For the Triune God, His “curse” is spoken out of His great, great love for you and His desire to bless you.

3) The Bible warns you that pursuing religion or spirituality is like peddling down a hill thinking it is the way to the top of the hill.

IMAGE 1:

4) The Triune God broke into the real world, to do for you what you could never do for yourself. This is offered to you as an unmerited and humbling gift.

5) Jesus offers to trade places with you. On Him, all that shames, diminishes, and punishes you; and all that you have done to deserve that shame, diminishment, and punishment. On you, His sinless, loving, sacrificial, risen life of union with the Living God.

IMAGE 2:

6) In Christ Jesus, every curse against you is swallowed up in life and blessing that is real today and continues into eternity.

This broadcast talk is a shortened version of a sermon I first gave at Church of the Messiah. It was part of a sermon series though the whole book of Galatians.

Broadcast Notes:

"Jesus Christ Became a Curse for Me"

Today’s Reading: Galatians 3  (ESV)
____________________________

    1. Please pray that at Good News In The Morning, we will preach “Jesus Christ crucified”, in such a way that God touches people hearts.
    2. For many Christians at a functional level, we act as if, “a Christian needs the Holy Spirit like a fish needs a bicycle”.
    3. Please pray that we will be so gripped by the Gospel that we will live in dependence on the Holy Spirit’s life giving power.
    4. Please pray that we will always ask, “What does the Bible say?”
    5. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” - so every human being has a sense of being cursed.
    6. God calls out, “Humble yourself. Embrace the One who embraced your curse to make you right with me”.
    7. It was my curse, not His, that He bore on the cross. By faith in Him, the curse is gone, and I am blessed to grow as God’s very own as the Holy Spirit indwells me.

Prayer:

Father, pour out your Holy Spirit upon all who are listening, wherever they may be.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon them. Bring them to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
And for those who have already come to a saving grace, in Jesus Christ, make them disciples of Jesus who are gripped by the Gospel, learning to live in dependence upon your Holy Spirit, as they live for your glory.
God Bless.
