'Jesus Resurrected'

Scripture text: Luke 24: 1-32   (ESV)

This radio talk was first given as a much longer sermon at Church of the Messiah where I serve as Pastor. It was part of a sermon series through all of the Gospel of Luke entitled, "Luke: Jesus For Pagans And Skeptics."

1. Everyone, even His closest disciples, thought that Jesus was discredited and dead - and that He would stay discredited and dead.

2. Luke is saying that what happened to Jesus is as real as your bank records, the NBA Finals stats and the list of Canada's Prime Ministers.

3. Luke tells the good news that Jesus died on a Friday and that the grave was empty on the Sunday, because Jesus had been raised and vindicated by God the Father.

4. Jesus is not an illustration of what happens to everyone because they are human. He is God's promised power of salvation to everyone who believes in Him.

5. Jesus is the same person on Easter Sunday as He was on Good Friday, but now He is resurrected with a resurrected body.

6. Jesus teaches that His betrayal, crucifixion, death, resurrection and glorification are seen in all of the Bible; that is what the Bible is all about.

7. Dear God, please grow in me a humble trusting, walking, knowing of the greatness, glory and grace of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, crucified and risen.

'Forgiveness and Reconciliation'
(Jesus Crucified, Dead, and Buried)

This program has been sponsored by Mel Newman, to the honour and glory of God and the furtherance of His Kingdom. Thank you for sponsoring this program and partnering in this way.

This weeks talk is an abbreviated version of a sermon that I gave at Church of the Messiah, Ottawa. The longer sermon was part of my series "Luke: Jesus For Pagans And Skeptics." Please pray for me and all of the preachers on Good News In The Morning.

Scripture text: Luke 23:26-56   (ESV)

Forgiveness and Reconciliation
SERMON NOTES:

"And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."" Luke 23:34 (ESV)
1. One person alone can forgive, but two are needed for reconciliation.
"And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."" Luke 23:34 (ESV)
2. I cannot forgive another person without personally paying a price.
"And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."" Luke 23:34 (ESV)
3. On the cross, Jesus paid the price of God forgiving me.
"And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."" Luke 23:34 (ESV)
4. Every wrong I do is an offence against another person (or creation) AND against God Himself.
5. "One thief was saved that no sinner might despair, but only one, that no sinner might presume." (by J. C. Ryle)
6. Lord, I have done wrong. I am sorry. Please forgive me. In Your grace, please make me your child. Please be my Lord and never let me go. In Jesus' name, AMEN.
7. As the gospel grips me, my desire to forgive will grow.
8. As the gospel grips me, the cry of my heart will increasingly be, "Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit."
