'The Gospel is about a person'

Romans 1: 1-17   (ESV)

Greeting

1 Paul, a servant[a] of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David[b] according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,
To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Longing to Go to Rome

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers,[c] that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,[d] both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith,[e] as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”[f]

Footnotes:
a.      Romans 1:1 Or slave (for the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface)
b.      Romans 1:3 Or who came from the offspring of David
c.       Romans 1:13 Or brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God's family, the church
d.      Romans 1:14 That is, non-Greeks
e.      Romans 1:17 Or beginning and ending in faith
f.       Romans 1:17 Or The one who by faith is righteous shall live

4. The Gospel is the power of God which justifies, sanctifies and glorifies all who believe in Jesus.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith."" Romans 1: 16-17

Prayer:

Father, Just bless people for this show. Turn our hearts to Jesus. Turn our hearts to Romans 1: 16-17. Turn our hearts to you.

'Knowing and Doing God's Will'

From the Book Of Proverbs

[Quotes from biblegateway.com  -  English Standard Version (ESV)]

Proverbs 21:5
The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,
but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

22 Without counsel plans fail,
but with many advisers they succeed.

Proverbs 12:5

The thoughts of the righteous are just;
the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.

Proverbs 16:2

All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the spirit.

Proverbs 3:7-8

Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh[a]

    and refreshment[b] to your bones.

24 A man's steps are from the Lord;
how then can man understand his way?

1. I deceive myself and want binoculars, techniques, control, guarantees and a 'two-button-life" for my life.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

2. The living God lovingly offers to provide a mirror, the Cross and the New Covenant to fallen rebels like you and me.

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.

Proverbs 29:18

18 Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint,[a]
but blessed is he who keeps the law.

Footnotes:

  1. Proverbs 29:18 Or the people are discouraged

 Proverbs 31:25

25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.

PRAYER:
Father, Help us to be disciples of Jesus, who are gripped by the Gospel, who live for your glory.

Friends: Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.
