‘Forgiveness’

This week, we look at the only place in the Gospels where
somebody asks Jesus to teach them to pray.
(Luke11: 1-4 )

The Lord's Prayer
11 Now Jesus[a] was praying in a certain place, and
when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as
John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you
pray, say:
“Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
3 Give us each day our daily bread,[b]
4 and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.”

Footnotes:
How do I know I need to forgive?
1. If I have been wronged and now
I have feelings of fight or flight, then I need to forgive to be free.
Sometimes forgiveness takes a
long obedience in the same direction - a long season of prayer.
Does forgiveness mean I have to
forget? No!
Do I have to forgive those who
won't repent? Yes!
There cannot be reconciliation
and restoration without repentance.
2. Freedom is natural.
Christians are told to move
towards forgiveness.
Should I forgive God? No. God is
never in our debt. He is only good. It is never appropriate to forgive God.
3. I need mercy every day - and
God is mercy.
4. Jesus gives me a new identity
and destiny - totally forgiven.
5. God made me to be a stream and
not a damn.
Prayer:
Father, Thank you so much for Jesus and for his
once-for-all sacrifice upon the cross.
Help me, and all who are here to be so gripped by
the Gospel that we will receive the forgiveness of our sins and that we will
learn to forgive, as well.
