‘When we are raised’

Welcome to Good News In the Morning, a program of words and music bringing a Christian message of hope and encouragement to those who are looking for an intelligent, meaningful and spirited approach to faith and to life.

Today’s scripture is taken from John 20:30-21:14 (NIV)

The Purpose of John’s Gospel

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[a] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Jesus and the Miraculous Catch of Fish

21 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee.[b] It happened this way: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus[c]), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 3 “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.
5 He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”
“No,” they answered.
6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards.[d] 9 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread.
10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

  Let us pray:
Gracious God, we give you thanks for the opportunity to worship you and praise you. And, in your grace, we submit our lives and we look to you for your help and joy.
And we pray that we may be beacons of your light to those who have not yet seen it, that their lives might be filled by the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
In His name we pray, amen.

Now be sure to worship in a church where the gospel is soundly proclaimed and lived out with compassion integrity and resolve.

I do pray that the Lord will hold your heart and you would know Jesus personally and profoundly. May the Holy Spirit reside deep within your heart, may the heavenly Father surround you with his constant and abiding and accompanying love.

Come And Worship

Reference passage:  Matthew 2:1-13 (NIV)

The Magi Visit the Messiah

2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

The Escape to Egypt

13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

Let's pray to our Lord:

Almighty God, we pray that you will bless us and strengthen us in your work and in your word, that we would be able to worship you; yes, alone in our homes, but also together with others, to encourage and to be encouraged, to worship you as the body of Christ, loving you and loving one-another.
Lord, help us to worship you, every moment of every day, as sons and daughters of the living God, as brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ, as people saved and found and given new life.
We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Broadcast Notes:

A Life of Truth and Worship

 Today's Reading:  John 4:1-26

1. From birth, every human being is like a beautiful cut rose.

2. When you "drink in" Christ, He creates an eternal spring of living water at the centre of who you are.

3. You hide from God. He is seeking you.

4. Jesus knows you truly from your conception to your death - and still He died for you, and still He seeks you.

5. We seek idols. The Father is seeking people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.

6. Loving Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, flowing like a stream of living water within me day-by-day into eternity. Please make me a disciple of Jesus gripped by the Gospel who is learning to worship You in spirit and in truth in my day-to-day life. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
